In 1995, this kitchen was lovingly designed from the ground up, taking full advantage of excellent natural light and a functional layout that made it warm and inviting. Fast forward nearly three decades, and the charm of the '90s design called for a contemporary upgrade. In this before-and-after kitchen post, we'll walk you through the transformation of this space, highlighting the design nuances and modern finishes that turned it into a home centerpiece.
The Design Concept
The initial stage involved a thoughtful renovation to enhance the kitchen's layout and functionality, setting the foundation for modern enhancements. The flow significantly improved with a more open design, a defined breakfast nook, and strategic placement of key features like the cooktop and an additional prep sink, creating a canvas ready for our signature finishing touches.
The Finishing Touches
It's in the finishes that this kitchen came to life. The handcrafted range hood is a standout feature, created from solid maple and accented with white oak trim to match the cabinetry. Textured tile in a matte finish and installed in a straight pattern adds a neutral but visually interesting backdrop to reflect light, adding warmth and depth.
The windows received a dramatic upgrade with the two-tone casing featuring striking Iron Ore paint that blended with the cabinetry's color palette. This bold choice was softened by introducing dark walnut accents, adding a layer of warmth and sophistication.
The custom-designed, kidney-shaped maple banquette bench creates a warm and inviting nook for enjoying a cup of tea or a casual meal, finished in a light wood stain to beautifully complement the new oak floors.
Brass fixtures and hardware were the crowning touches, sprinkling a hint of luxury throughout the kitchen. This choice created a cohesive look that tied all the elements together, resulting in a modern and timeless space.
This kitchen redesign reminds us that with the right vision and design touches, the heart of the home can be both beautiful and functional, ready to create new memories for years to come.
