In a recent collaboration with interior designer Dani Petta from Linen & Clove, we had the pleasure of bringing a unique vision to life in Madison. This project involved creating a dramatic feature wall designed specifically for homeowner Jill's music room. Jill envisioned a space where her friends and family could immerse themselves in her cherished album collection. The intricate structure of a tree trunk and its sprawling branches inspired the design, which aimed to infuse the room with a natural yet sophisticated feel.
To achieve this vision, we presented Jill with a sketch featuring straight and angled wood slats, echoing the serene beauty of trees. We recommended using poplar wood for the slats, known for its versatile properties and smooth finish. The chosen color was boldly neutral, Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams, finished in Cashmere with a subtle low luster to create a moody and inviting backdrop against Jill’s plush blue velvet sofa—a perfect spot for unwinding.
After Jill approved the design concept, the initial project phase involved meticulously cutting the poplar into 1.5" wide x 3/4" thick slats and applying two coats of paint to each. We then prepped the wall, carefully taping off the area and smoothing imperfections from previous artwork. The dramatic Iron Ore hue was then applied, setting the stage for the final step: installing the painted slats onto the wall, bringing Jill and Dani's inspired vision into reality.
To add a personal touch to the space, Dani envisioned an album wall display on an adjacent wall to showcase Jill’s favorite album covers. We custom-built a distinctive feature in the same wood species and color as the feature wall, harmonizing with the room's overall aesthetic.
Thanks to Dani's exquisite design, Jill's music room has been transformed into a space that seamlessly blends relaxation with style. Jill was thrilled with the results, sharing, "Sending a pic of the wall Jeff created... LOVE it! And love my couch more now too! Thank you, Jeff!" This kind of heartfelt endorsement demonstrates the power of collaborative creativity and the beauty of personalized home design, and it’s why we love crafting spaces that resonate deeply with the unique personalities and passions of the people who live there.
